Approach
State funds for biomedical research in regenerative medicine
should not be restricted to adult stem cell research.
State funds should also be made available for embryonic stem
cell research including Somatic Cell Nuclear
Transfer (SCNT) research on embryos from fertility clinics
with parental consent for research that would otherwise
be discarded. We support this initiative with the goal of
eradicating diseases, improving lives, and insuring access
for all citizens to future treatments and cures that will
result from this research. We do not support human
reproductive cloning. We respect differing points of view
on this subject and hope to work for a better Texas for all.
